The Toy Association unveiled 123 finalists for its 2019 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards. The TOTY Awards program recognizes the top toy, game, and licenses in the industry, and supports children in need as a fundraiser for The Toy Foundation.
TOTY Ambassadors announced the finalists this morning. Between now and January 6, families can visit www.ToyAwards.org to vote for their favorite in each of the 17 categories.
Nineteen judges chose the finalists from more than 550 nominees submitted by over 200 companies of all sizes. The judges included toy and play experts, retailers, academics, and journalists who reviewed and ranked the products in specific categories relevant to their areas of expertise. The judges then participated in a live discussion to determine the finalists in each category. They considered each product’s creativity, design, play value, and marketing.
The winner in each category, as well as the “Toy of the Year” award winner and the “People’s Choice” winner (based solely on consumer votes), will be announced at the TOTY Awards gala on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. The celebration will kick-off Toy Fair and will include inductions into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame.
The TOTY Awards gala is open to industry stakeholders only. Tickets for the event will be available starting December 3. Proceeds from the event will provide funding to The Toy Foundation, which partners with generous toy companies throughout the year to bring brand-new toys to children in need.
