Doo-bi-doo-bi-doo … One of the hottest holiday gifts of the 1990s is back.
Hasbro‘s Furby — launched by Tiger Electronics in 1998 — has joined Afterpay, the leading ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ platform, as the face and voice of its new Impossible Gift Finder.
The collaboration kicks into high on Dec. 7, when consumers can interact with the robotic toy in real-time through Afterpay’s TikTok comments. Furby will take center stage to help frazzled shoppers find gifts for those who are impossible to shop for.
“We’re excited to give our classic brand, Furby, a fun comeback through our collaboration with Afterpay,” says Casey Collins, general manager and senior vice president, global licensed consumer products at Hasbro. “This holiday season, consumers can interact with Furby like never before by having the iconic furry friend help them make gift-buying a whole lot easier.”
According to Afterpay, nearly half of Gen Z consumers are looking to its platform for gift list inspiration. Through Dec. 12, shoppers can snag some advice from Furby and then shop for gifts and pay later in four, interest-free installments using Afterpay.
“It’s a fun and festive way to shop, motivating people to conquer their holiday shopping lists while spending responsibly with Afterpay,” says Geoff Seeley, global chief marketing officer at Afterpay.
Of course, the current resurgence of Furby may be a hint at things to come. The fuzzy icon made an appearance in the recent Netflix animated film, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and its 25th anniversary is just around the corner.
