Ravensburger North America isn’t letting a lawsuit from Upper Deck sour its plans to unleash Disney Lorcana this summer.
Following Upper Deck’s surprise legal action alleging that Ravensburger and game designer Ryan Miller copied a previously unannounced game called Rush of Ikorr and repackaged it as Disney Lorcana, the company has issued a follow-up statement after reviewing the claims.
“We at Ravensburger stand behind the integrity of our team and the originality of our products,” says Lisa Krueger, Senior Communications Director, Ravensburger North America. “The baseless claims filed this week are entirely without merit, and we look forward to proving this in due time. In the meantime, our focus continues to be on developing and launching a fantastic game in August.”
Upon the reported filing on Wednesday, Ravensburger had not yet been served with the complaint and issued a statement declining to speculate on its contents.
First revealed last year timed with Disney’s D23 Expo, Disney Lorcana is Ravensburger’s entry into the growing world of customizable trading card games (TCG) — a space in which Upper Deck already plays with its Legendary and Vs. System 2PCG titles.
Disney Lorcana is set for an early release to local game stores and hobby shops beginning Aug. 18 prior to its mass retail launch on Sept. 1.
