Mattel, Inc. appointed Adam Bonnett, a 21-year Disney Channel veteran, as executive producer of Mattel Television. In his new position, Bonnett will oversee global episodic content development and production for both live action and animation based on Mattel’s iconic brands as the company moves to further its franchise management efforts.
Bonnett, who stepped down from his post as EVP of original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide last fall, was previously tasked with overseeing all live-action development and current original series and movies for the network, as well as multi-platform programming, casting, and talent relations. He developed and oversaw numerous hit series, including Hannah Montana, the Emmy Award-winning shows Even Stevens and Wizards of Waverly Place, and other hit series, including Lizzie McGuire, Good Luck Charlie, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Sonny With A Chance, That’s So Raven, Andi Mack, Raven’s Home, KC Undercover, Jessie, and the animated series Kim Possible.
Additionally, he led Disney Channel Original Movies, including the Descendants franchise, Teen Beach Movie, Disney’s Zombies, Adventures in Babysitting (2018), and Disney’s upcoming live-action movie, Kim Possible, which premieres on Feb. 15.
He will report to Richard Dickson, Mattel’s president and COO.
“Mattel owns one of the world’s greatest portfolio of brands, each with unique characters, storylines, and built-in emotional connections with children, creating amazing potential for storytelling,” Bonnett says. “I’m excited to work with Richard and the talented team to play in Mattel’s incredible toy box and bring its universal brands to life.”
Bonnett’s appointment follows a wave of announcements as Mattel looks to make a larger push into television and film with such projects as the Barbie movie and the Hot Wheels movie.
