As Barbie: The Movie becomes Warner Bros. highest grossing movie of all time, CBS Studios has acquired the rights to make a TV series inspired by You Don’t Own Me: How Mattel V. MGA Entertainment Exposed Barbie’s Dark Side, Deadline reports.

The book, written by University of San Diego law professor Orly Lobel, was originally published in 2018 and follows the parallel stories of Barbie creator Ruth Handler, Bratz creator Carter Bryant, and the dispute between Mattel and MGA Entertainment

The show would explore the origin story for both series of dolls, from Bryant’s creation of the Bratz dolls in his spare time while he was working as a Barbie designer for Mattel to the decade-long court battle that followed Bryant selling Bratz to MGA Entertainment and the decades of cultural impact that Barbie has made on both young girls and the toy industry. You Don’t Own Me also explores the cultural revolution that Barbie launched, the backlash that revolution has received over the years, and a behind-the-scenes look into the toy industry.
