A new doll is combiing two iconic Mattel brands.
American Girl features a wide variety of 18-inch dolls, mainly geared toward young girls but also nostalgic kidult collectors. The brand’s doll characters have unique personalities, goals, and looks, much like Barbie dolls. Now, two titans of the doll world have come together for a new American Girl inspired by the original Barbie.
The Barbie by American Girl Collector Doll’s design is based on the 1959 No. 1 Barbie. The doll features a black-and-white swimsuit adorned with 455 Swarovski crystals, blue eyes that open and close, and blonde hair styled in a topknot ponytail. Accessories include an authentic replica wrist tag, cat-eye sunglasses, hoop earrings, and black shoes.
The new American Girl offering is a part of the brand’s American Girl Collector Series. Other dolls in the series include Disney Princess Collector Dolls, an FAO Schwarz Toy Soldier Doll, and the 2023 Shimmering Silver Holiday Collector Doll.
Mattel Creations limited preorders of the Barbie by American Girl Collector Doll to three per user, and the doll has already sold out. Only 5,000 units of the doll are being created worldwide.
