The Swedish video game company Embracer Group has initiated conversation with PAI Partners for French board game publisher Asmodee to join the Embracer Group.
While currently owned by PAI Partners, Asmodee has established itself as a leader in the board game industry, selling over 39 million games in 2020 alone. Asmodee is known for its enduring franchises including 7 Wonders and Ticket to Ride.
The Embracer Group believes that acquisition of Asmodee will be beneficial for both parties.
With eight already well established subsidiaries (THQ Nordic, Koch Media, Coffee Stain, Amplifier, Saber Interactive, Deca, Gearbox Entertainment, Easybrain), Embracer maintains that this combined strength in the video game sector would accelerate Asmodee’s expansion into video games. Asmodee’s experience in board game development would similarly benefit the Embracer group.
If the entities were to combine, the Embracer Group and Asmodee would own more than 100 game development studios and over 500 owned IPs and brands. Asmodee would continue to operate independently and undergo no reorganization after the merge.
