Mattel unveiled the official trailer and key art for a new Netflix animated special, Barbie and Stacie to the Rescue. The hour-long Netflix special will follow Stacie, Barbie’s middle sister, as she comes to Barbie and Skipper’s aid. This marks the first time Stacie will be featured in a lead role. The special, airing March 14, will also include five new, original songs and new characters.

In the special, Stacie is uncertain of her place when the Roberts family attends a hot air balloon festival in Wisconsin — she is too young for adult activities, but is too old to play with little kids. However, Stacie has the right skills and the ability to help when her older sisters Barbie and Skipper are in trouble.

“Our animated Barbie content is developed to both empower and entertain,” says Michelle Mendelovitz, Global Head of Mattel Television Studio. “By placing Stacie at the center of the story, Barbie and Stacie to the Rescue provides audiences with a new heroine in Stacie and an entirely new perspective on the Barbie universe. We cannot wait to share this fun-spirited special with Barbie fans.”

The new content follows several new, fan-favorite series such as Barbie: A Touch of Magic. Mattel Television Studios’ series and specials aim to instill messages of friendship, kindness, and discovery with the fun of Barbie.

Barbie and Stacie to the Rescue, written by Kay Donmyer, will be available on Netflix in the U.S., Canada, the Asia Pacific region (excluding China) and certain European, Middle Eastern, and African countries on March 14. The special will debut in Latin America, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Romanic, and other Middle Eastern and Northern African countries on Sept. 5.

The five-song album for the special will also be available on all major streaming platforms on March 14.
