Industry spending across video game hardware, software, and accessories and game cards grew 7 percent in September compared to the same time period last year.

According to analysis from The NPD Group, spending totaled $1.4 billion.

Individually, accessories and game cards was the only category to show growth, increasing 43 percent compared to last year. This marks a record high for a September tracking period, says NPD’s video game industry analyst, Mat Piscatella.

This marks the first time in tracked history that both September and year-to-date game card spending now exceeds accessories spending.

The top 10 games for August across all platforms, ranked by dollar sales, were Marvel’s Spider-Man, NBA 2K19, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, FIFA 19, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Madden NFL 19, Forza Horizon 4, Destiny 2, Super Mario Party, and NHL 19.
