Sesame Workshop has named Sal Perez the newest Vice President, Executive Producer of Sesame Street Production. Perez brings 14 years of experience with Sesame to the role. As a first-generation Mexican-American, he’s already made history as Sesame Street’s first Latinx Executive Producer.
For the past year, he’s been the Supervising Producer and oversaw the 52nd season of the beloved series, as well as See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special and The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo. His career with Sesame Workshop began with Plaza Sésamo, the Mexican co-production of Sesame Street, where he served as producer for several years.
Throughout his time with Sesame Workshop, Perez has produced bilingual content for many of the organization’s biggest initiatives. He will be taking over the role from Ben Lehmann, who has been the Executive Producer for the last five seasons. Lehmann plans to focus on new directing opportunities but will stay on for the current production season in a consulting capacity. He will continue to direct new Sesame Street episodes.
