STX Films released the second trailer for its franchise-launching UglyDolls film. Featuring the acting and singing voices of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton, and Pitbull, UglyDolls will be followed by an animated series on Hulu and a toy line from Hasbro, who signed on early as master licensee. The film follows the adventures of the dolls who roll off the assembly line with quirks that make them not-quite-perfect.

STX Entertainment recently entered into a deal with Alibaba Pictures to co-finance and produce even more UglyDolls content, with plans to extend the brand across multiple formats and licensees in the year ahead. A soundtrack will be released by Atlantic Records.

The road to the big screen has been a long one for UglyDolls, which launched in 2001 and was named as Specialty Toy of the Year in the Toy Association’s Toy of the Year Awards in 2006. A feature film was initially set up at Universal/Illumination in 2011 before ultimately landing with STX.
