Hot Wheels Legends 2020

Following a pair of epic coast-to-coast runs in 2018 and 2019, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour returns for a third year.

The traveling car show will once again invite families and automotive enthusiasts to join in the fun as the Hot Wheels team hunts for the next custom car that is worthy of being immortalized as a 1:64-scale die-cast toy. The tour begins in Miami on March 7 and will make 18 stops at Walmart parking lots across the country. This year’s tour includes stops in new markets such as Milwaukee and Boston.

“After stopping in more than 20 different cities and seeing almost 10,000 custom builds over the last two years, we’ve been blown away by our fans’ talent and serious passion for cars,” says Ted Wu, head of Hot Wheels design, Mattel. “The Legends Tour brings together cars of almost every make and model that embody the Hot Wheels brand and we’re excited to take it to the next level in an even bigger and better way in 2020.”

More than 90,000 fans viewed approximately 5,000 custom cars from across the U.S., Mexic0, and Germany last year.

HOW IT WORKS:

At each stop, fans will show off their unique custom builds to a team of judges consisting of Hot Wheels designers, automotive experts, and influencers, who will select one finalist based on the criteria of authenticity, creativity, and garage spirit. At the end of the tour, one finalist from each of the 18 stops will win a trip to the 2020 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where their custom creations will be judged side-by-side to determine which one will be made into a die-cast car sold around the world. New for this year, Mobil 1 will also be providing one additional spot for a vehicle to be featured in the final competition at SEMA. Through a fan favorite contest, runners up from each local stop will have a second chance at being immortalized into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends.

Previous winners include 2Jetz (2018) and The Nash (2019). Hot Wheels fans can look for 2Jetz in the Hot Wheels mainline assortment this year.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES:

The 18 stops on this year’s tour will feature even more fun for the family with on-site experiences from partners including Walmart, Dickies, A&W Root Beer, American Honda, Dynacraft Wheels, and title sponsor Mobil 1. On tour for the first time this year will be Mobil 1’s new Cupid build, a custom truck that aims to inspire the next generation to celebrate car culture. The Hot Wheels traveling vending machine truck will also be cruising to Walmart stores across the country between the stops.

The special stop at Hot Wheels headquarters in El Segundo promises additional surprises.
