’44 Cats’ Is on the Prowl in China as Second Season Heads into Production

Italy’s Rainbow Group (Winx Club) has another global hit on its hands with 44 Cats.

The series, which airs daily on Nickelodeon in the U.S., is taking off in China following its debut on CCTV14.

44 Cats follows four kittens — Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball — who form a band called the Buffycats. Living and rocking out in the Clubhouse — a garage at Granny Pina’s house — the quartet’s adventures explore themes of friendship and altruism, tolerance, diversity, and acceptance. The musical backbone of the 52-episode series is a score comprised of traditional Italian songs developed and performed by Antoniano Bologna’s Children’s Choir.

“We are really proud that 44 Cats has reached the Chinese audience with its positive values and entertaining adventures,” says series creator Iginio Straffi, CEO of Rainbow. “We are confident that the audience will appreciate the passion and dedication we put in this show”.

A line of toys will be distributed by Bandai America in the U.S. and Canada while Guangzhou Art-land Holding Co. Ltd. is acting as the consumer products agent for the brand in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

The second season of 44 Cats recently entered production.
