With the impending release of the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One, it’s only natural to be on the lookout for new video games to try on these latest platforms. However, games from other consoles and devices shouldn’t be excluded either especially with the forthcoming distribution of newer versions of old classics. Whether it’s a sport, action-adventure, or fantasy game, there’s a game out there geared towards any gamer in any genre. The best part is that the timeless games players have grown up with are being revamped to ensure a different gaming experience than previous versions. Before eliminating these new editions to opt for a newer series, it might be worth it to consider what these current renditions have to offer. Here are some classic franchise games getting ready to put out their latest publication that might capture your interest.
The annual soccer game is back for another year filled with players across the world in various leagues and tournaments. The FIFA soccer video game series premiered in 1993, and is still going strong. This latest addition to the line will be available for a multitude of platforms including Xbox 360, PS3, and PC download on September 24 in the U.S. An early release version is also available for the PS3 and comes out on September 20. The game will also appear on the PS4 and other Playstation and Nintendo devices including the PSP and the Wii. The Xbox One however might arguably be the best deal for the console which FIFA 14 debuts on for free (at least in Europe anyway—with a preorder of the device) and comes with FIFA Ultimate Team Legends, which features legends of the game. Now, you can play with players of today and yesteryear, and can in fact see Pele tackle the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo—if that’s your preference.
Gaming console aside though, FIFA seems to be pulling out all stops. The new sports game has a plethora of new features, including something FIFA calls “Precision Movement”. This, in FIFA’s terms, recreates “the biomechanics of real-world athletes,” which simply means the game mimics the movements of the players in real life as precise as possible, making for a more realistic game play. Then there are these other facets such as the smart sounding “Real Ball Physics” and “Pure Shot,” which are designed to offer a marvelous and pragmatic goal scoring experience.
Kingdom Hearts III
This will be the third game in the main Kingdom Hearts line, and continues the saga between light and dark. It is an action-role playing game and follows protagonist Sora and his friends and their fight against the darkness. The third installment is said to shadow the characters as they pursue the seven guardians of light and the Key to Return Hearts in order to foil cunning main antagonist, Master Xehanort’s plan. The game is also said to be the final one in the Xehanort line, so expect publisher, Square Enix, to have some interesting features in store (maybe some Marvel and Star Wars characters?). The trailer for this rendition was first shown at E3 this year, but the game still seems to be in the early stages of development. That means the release date is still unknown, but the game is expected to be released for the PS4 and the Xbox One and might see other game console action.
Remember Super Smash Bros. Melee, the successful fighting game for the Nintendo Game Cube and its successor, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii? Well a fourth chapter in the Super Smash Bros. line is in the works for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. Namco Bandai and Sora Ltd.’s new sequel is set for release sometime next year, and while the exact release date is still known, there are a couple of details Nintendo has divulged. For one, there is a slew of new stages gamers can compete at such as the Pyrosphere level from the Metroid: Other M game, a Pilotwings stage from that game, as well as a Garden of Hope stage from Pikmin 3. New stages aren’t the only things to look forward to as new characters have also been added to the series. Characters include the Wii Fit trainer, Captain Olimar and the Pikmin from the Pikmin games, and Capcom’s Mega Man. Although the game is being produced for both the Wii U and 3DS, however, there won’t be cross platform compatibility and each will feature different stages.
