Cartoon Saloon Brand Development will oversee the global licensing and merchandising strategy for the 2D animated Netflix feature, My Father’s Dragon, which premieres later this year. While the film has no official release date yet, Netflix has revealed a sprawling voice cast with the likes of Room’s Jacob Tremblay and Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo.
Cartoon Saloon Brand Development is responsible for all licensing and merchandising activities for Cartoon Saloon and works with licensees to ensure they have necessary assets and access to creative teams. The company also creates, designs, and manufactures its own sustainably produced merchandise to sit alongside that of the licensees.
Inspired by the Newbery Honor Book, My Father’s Dragon is about a young boy who runs away to rescue a baby dragon and find a Wild Island, after fearing a move to the city with his mother. This is the first book in a trilogy that was first published in 1948 and has since been published in over 20 languages.
This will be the fifth feature film produced by Cartoon Saloon from the company’s base in Ireland. The animation studio has been carving its unique reputation in the animation industry for 23 years with titles such as The Secret Of Kells, Wolfwalkers, and Song Of The Sea.
Cartoon Saloon Brand Development will take in-person meetings for parties interested in the property at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas later this month.
