The Walt Disney Co. and Lucasfilm kicked off the nine-week Mando Mondays event with the official reveal of dozens of new toys, games, collectibles, and consumer products tied to the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian which debuts Friday on Disney+. While numerous licensees were in the mix, in terms of quantity and variety, Hasbro led the charge with new action figures across multiple lines. While the addition of new characters to the super-articulated The Vintage Collection and Black Series was expected, the debut of a Mandalorian Retro Collection was a surprise.

Star Wars Retro Collection 3.75-inch Action Figure Assortment

Over the past two years, Hasbro’s Star Wars Retro Collection has provided kids and collectors with some updated versions of classic action figures in the same scale as the original Kenner Star Wars collection that was in stores from 1978-1985. One tantalizing possibility has always been the opportunity to create new characters in the classic style that could essentially continue the line beyond the original 95 figures, and aside from a few one-offs such as Grand Moff Tarkin, that hasn’t happened until now.

The Mandalorian, Cara Dune, IG-11, Kuiil, The Child, Moff Gideon, and Greef Karga are designed to look and play like the original figures of the ’70s and ’80s and come on cardbacks that feature Kenner branding and a weathered look. Available at major and specialty retailers next spring.
