Mattel is making a bigger play in digital gaming with the launch of Mattel Game Studios, a new division dedicated to developing and publishing games based on the company’s portfolio of brands.

Housed under the Mattel Digital Studios umbrella, the new division comprises nearly 300 artists, designers, engineers, live operations specialists, and producers across Los Angeles and Hangzhou. The team will manage Mattel’s existing catalogue of mobile titles while also designing new games and branded experiences for creator platforms such as Roblox and Fortnite

The launch is part of Mattel’s broader efforts to expand its self-published gaming presence following its acquisition of mobile game studio Mattel163 earlier this year. Its first title, Skeletor: Until Next Time!, a mobile game inspired by Masters of the Universe, debuted in June, and new games are already in development, including UNO Wild, which is currently in soft launch, and an upcoming Hot Wheels title.

“Mattel Game Studios gives us the scale and capabilities to build and publish more original gaming experiences inspired by our iconic brands,” says Marcus Liassides, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Mattel Digital Studios. “Together with our successful collaborations across the industry, it strengthens our ability to reach fans through great games wherever they choose to play.”

“We’ve brought together an extraordinary group of developers, artists, and publishing experts who share a passion for building great games,” says Amy Huang, who founded the original Mattel163 team. “Combining that talent with Mattel’s incredible brand portfolio gives us an exciting opportunity to create experiences players will enjoy for years to come.”
