The onslaught of news from Hasbro continues this week with the introduction of NERFBALL, the first-ever officially organized team sport for the NERF brand.

Former NFL star Donald Driver is working with Hasbro to craft the rules and gameplay for the new sport as NERFBALL heads toward its first public tournament next summer.

According to Hasbro, “NERFBALL brings the excitement and heart-pounding play of paintball and airsoft together with the speed and agility of basketball, all combined with buzzer beating shots and unbelievable highlight moments.” The sport will introduce a new blaster and ball as Hasbro looks to pair NERF’s legacy in sports (dating back to 1969) and foam dart blaster play (which launched in 1992).

“I am a huge fan of the NERF brand and have loved seeing it continue to expand into the world of sports,” Driver says. “This past year has been a pleasure working with Hasbro to conceive such an exciting and entirely new sport. Through gameplay testing I’ve seen, I can confidently say that NERFBALL is sure to bring the exhilaration, rush and fun you get playing and watching other competitive sports, but in a way that only NERF can do.”

Additional details on NERFBALL and its related products will be revealed in the months ahead.
