Industry spending across video game hardware, software, and accessories and game cards grew 26 percent in August when compared to the same time period last year. According to analysis from The NPD Group, spending increased across each category, totaling $796 million.

Accessories and game cards saw largest dollar growth, increasing 39 percent compared to last year. This marks a record high for an August tracking period, says NPD’s video game industry analyst, Mat Piscatella.

“Gamepad and headset sales continue to sizzle, each reaching year-to-date sales records in the month of August,” Piscatella says. “Headset and headphone sales are now up 88 percent year-to-date, while gamepad sales have grown 26 percent.”

The top 10 games for August across all platforms, ranked by dollar sales, were Madden NFL 19, Monster Hunter: World, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, Grand Theft Auto V, Mario Kart 8, Naruto To Boruto: Shinobi Striker, God of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey.
