It might be April 1, but this is no joke.

Another heroic crew from the 1980s is getting a shot at a comeback. The “insect-evolved humanoid” Sectaurs are suiting up for a relaunch thanks to a long-term licensing agreement between The Nacelle Co. and licensor Seven Towns.

Under the new deal, The Nacelle Co. — the studio behind Netflix’s The Toys That Made Us and the multiplatform A Toy Store Near You — will leverage its new toy division to create a new line of action figures and launch a consumer products program alongside a new Sectaurs animated series that is currently in development.

“Distant planets, mutant humanoid insects, and an Evil Empress? Where do I sign up?! That all said, we’re incredibly excited to introduce Sectaurs to a new generation of fans while honoring the legacy of the original,” says Brian Volk-Weiss, CEO, The Nacelle Co.

The Sectaurs brand was created by Maureen Trotto, Tim Clarke, and Lawrence Mass, the trio behind the 1980s Mattel hit Boglins. In 1985, Coleco introduced the “Warriors of Symbion” into toy stores amid the craze of action brands led by Masters of the Universe, Transformers, and G.I. Joe. Sectaurs toys were supported by an animated series and an 8-issue comic book series published by Marvel.

“Sectaurs is such an iconic IP and really has held a place not only in the hearts of the original creators, Maureen Trotto, Tim Clarke, and Larry Mass, but with fans around the world,” says Seven Towns CEO Mike Moody. “We are very excited to be working with Nacelle to bring this awesome property back to the screens with new and gripping themes.”

While Sectaurs were off the radar for a number of years, interest in the brand has grown over the past decade. Most recently, Zica Toys (Eagle Force) produced a limited range of Sectaurs action figures.

Over the past year, The Nacelle Co. has accelerated its acquisition strategy to build a portfolio of classic brands that can be reinvented for new audiences and nostalgia fans alike. Power LordsRobo Force, and The Great Garloo are joined by properties from the Marx Toys brand in providing a foundation for the company’s new toy division led by former Hasbro and Toy Biz designer and artist David Vonner.

Later today, The Nacelle Co. will preview its upcoming toy lines during a panel at WonderCon in Anaheim, California. The presentation is set to take place from 6-7 p.m. PST in Room North 200B.

Nacelle Toys’ first wave of Robo Force action figures is set to go up for preorder beginning April 22 at nacellestore.com.
