From Disney Parks and animated films to toys, apparel, and home goods, the unmistakable silhouette of Mickey Mouse is everywhere. Next month, collectors and kids-at-heart can celebrate the icon through FunMax’s Shorts collection, a line of premium vinyl figures that leans into that famous form.
Following a soft launch in Mexico more than a decade ago, FunMax previewed the line’s wide release at Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC) in July. Social-friendly moments, including a large-scale, inflatable replica of Mickey and a jumbo golden figure, greeted fans at the show. At the Herrerabox booth, collectors could spin a wheel for a chance to take home a rare golden figure.

The collaboration between FunMax, Disney, and artist Herrerabox (Francisco Herrera) is the result of lifelong fandom: the motto for Shorts is “By Fans, For Fans!” Herrera, who designed the full collection, first visited Disneyland at the age of 6. “Understanding the legacy and vision of [Walt Disney] … defined my professional path and molded me into a multidisciplinary artist,” he explains.
“Consumers can feel when something is created with a genuine passion,” FunMax CEO Carlos Klarmann says. “This collection comes from a true Disney fan, artist, and collector whose vision is deeply connected to the Disney legacy.” For FunMax, an artist with a clear vision was paramount to connecting with fans. “The opportunity to partner with that creative vision and bring it to a global audience was very exciting for us,” Klarmann adds.
Herrera, whose favorite characters are Spider-Man and Aladdin’s Genie, grew up in the 1980s; his childhood was further shaped by popular toys of the decade, including Star Wars, Marvel, Gremlins, Ghostbusters, ThunderCats, and He-Man. He confirms enthusiastically that his “house is still full” of those toys today.

The legacy of his childhood and the influence of Disney and Mickey Mouse are evident in the Shorts collection, which evokes classic 2D animation while paying homage to modern characters, like Coco’s Miguel, Minnie Mouse, the Cheshire Cat, Tigger, and Jack Skellington. Shorts aligns the artist’s many passions, too. “I have always considered myself a restless artist across various forms of expression,” Herrera shares. “Shorts brings all my passions together into a single product, using Mickey Mouse, the world’s most iconic figure, as a canvas for infinite artistic expression.”
The line launches at mass retail in October, with a fan-focused activation planned for New York Comic Con (NYCC), Oct. 8-11. Next year, the line expands to include mystery boxes and new characters. “As the collection continues to grow, we see tremendous opportunities to explore additional Disney worlds and bring even more of these beloved stories to fans around the world,” Klarmann says.
