WildBrain is bringing Strawberry Shortcake back to her roots with Strawberry Shortcake’s Bake Shop, a new CG-animated web series premiering Oct. 16 on WildBrain’s Strawberry Shortcake channel on YouTube.

The series kicks off with two episodes on the official Strawberry Shortcake YouTube channel. The full 26-episode season will roll out over the following year, accompanied by eight new songs.

Designed for kids ages 4 and up, the series follows Strawberry Shortcake as she runs her neighborhood bake shop in Berryville. Her Berry Besties regularly stop by to lend a hand, grab a snack, and spend time together, while Strawberry Shortcake welcomes friends into her bake shop, upstairs apartment, and garden.

“Generations of fans have grown up with Strawberry Shortcake’s message of kindness, community, and laughter, and I am so excited for a new generation to meet her,” shares Daisy Wall, Vice President of Content for WildBrain. “Strawberry Shortcake’s Bake Shop opens up a fantastical world that feels both wonderfully familiar and completely new. As she supports her community of Berry Besties, Strawberry shows us that kindness is a courageous choice, grounded in grit and determination, and that even the smallest gesture, like sharing a cupcake, can become a symbol of love and care.”

The new series returns Strawberry Shortcake to her roots, complete with her signature bonnet, curly red hair, cat Custard, and strawberry-shaped home. The reimagined CG world combines elements of the brand’s 1980s history with a new look for today’s families.

Strawberry Shortcake debuted in the late 1970s through American Greetings. Drawn by illustrator Muriel Fahrion, Strawberry Shortcake was licensed by Kenner in 1979 and appeared in her first special, The World of Strawberry Shortcake, in 1980, where she lived in a shortcake in Strawberryland and faced the pie-obsessed and sychophant villain the Purple Pieman. The special was narrated by the sun, Mr. Sun, and included Berry Besties Huckleberry Pie, Blueberry Muffin, Apple Dumplin’, and Raspberry Tart. More specials would follow with more Berry Besties and animal companions.

Strawberry Shortcake’s Bake Shop is part of WildBrain’s continued expansion of the Strawberry Shortcake franchise through content, consumer products, and live experiences.

“This series does what Strawberry has always set out to do,” Wall says. “Bake the world a better place, one sweet treat at a time.”
