Almost 14 years ago, Barney the dinosaur made his last on-screen appearance as the last episode of Barney and Friends hit screens. This Valentine’s Day, Mattel launched a video in which Barney tells kids how much he loves them and teases the future of the brand.
“I haven’t seen some of you in a long time, but I always make sure to check in on my friends,” Barney says. “And it seems like, maybe, we could all use a little reminder right now. A reminder of the super-dee-duper ability we all have to love one another. And how important it is to show love towards yourself too. After a long day on the playground of life I want you to know, you are seen, you are special, you are loved.”
In the video, Barney also says that he has a feeling he’ll be seeing kids again soon. Barney is coming back to screens later this year with Barney’s World, an animated kids series that is headed to Max later this year. A live-action Barney movie with Daniel Kaluuya is also in development.
A line of toys and products including books and apparel is also on the way for later this year.
