Game Store Day 2026

One big day to celebrate the places we play.

On Saturday, November 7, GAMA: The Tabletop Game Association will celebrate the second annual Game Store Day, bringing retailers, publishers, creators, and players together for a day dedicated to the Friendly Local Game Stores at the heart of tabletop gaming.

And if the industry’s response is any indication, year two is shaping up to be a good one.

Game Store Day is a free GAMA member-only initiative created to celebrate and elevate the role independent game stores play in their communities. Inspired by events like Record Store Day and Indie Bookstore Day, the annual celebration spotlights the creativity, diversity, and passion of tabletop gaming and the stores that bring it all together.

Local game stores do a lot more than put games on shelves. They’re where someone learns their first game, discovers their next favorite one, finds a regular gaming group, or sits down across the table from someone who might become a new friend.

Game Store Day gives those stores an opportunity to turn it up a notch.

“Game Store Day is a great excuse for a store to put their best foot forward and create magic and wonder in their space,” said Kylie of Games Unlimited in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “Get creative with the experiences you offer, and you’ll have an event your customers will be talking about as they patiently look forward to next year.”

The Industry Is Getting in the Game

That excitement isn’t limited to retailers.

Game Store Day is designed to bring the tabletop ecosystem together, with publishers, creators, media, retailers, and fans all playing a role in building excitement around local stores.

And publishers have answered the call in a big way.

GAMA has already doubled its publisher participation goal for 2026, bringing even more industry support behind this year’s celebration. Participating publishers are helping create opportunities for players and retailers to discover games, demos, promotional items, and other surprises as part of Game Store Day.

That growing participation is exactly what Game Store Day is about: giving the entire industry a reason to rally around the places where tabletop gaming happens every day.

For stores, that means November 7 is a chance to show off what makes their community special.

Host a tournament. Teach a new game. Break out a demo. Plan something unexpected. Introduce regular customers to something they’ve never played or give someone who’s never stepped inside a game store a reason to pull up a chair.

There isn’t one right way to celebrate Game Store Day. In fact, the best events look different everywhere you go.

Ready to Roll the Dice?

With publisher participation already gaining momentum, it’s time for Friendly Local Game Stores to get involved.

Participating stores will join a coordinated campaign designed to drive foot traffic, increase visibility, and put local game stores at the center of tabletop excitement heading into the holiday season. Game Store Day builds on GAMA-led initiatives like Winter Wishlist by combining industry promotion with grassroots community participation to help players discover games and the local stores that carry them.

GAMA member retailers have until October 8 to register for Game Store Day 2026 and guarantee delivery of a Publisher’s Box. You can register up until Nov. 2 to receive a digital marketing Toolkit. The sooner the better!

So, start thinking about what November 7 could look like in your store. Get creative. Give your regulars something to look forward to. Give somebody a new reason to walk through the door.

And create a little magic while you’re at it.
