Hootenanny Games expands its tabletop collection with the launch of Mahjong Playing Cards.
As the first release in its new artist collection, this game features original artwork from acclaimed Nashville artist Amanda Norman. Inspired by luxury sets, Norman’s designs create an approachable aesthetic that complements the warmth and connection of Mahjong.
Hootenanny’s tabletop title also brings travel-friendly elements amid the resurgence of American Mahjong. In place of tiles, this set features 160 cards featuring traditional suits, winds, dragons, flowers, jokers, and blanks. Mahjong Playing Cards also includes a pair of pearlescent dice, all packed in a premium magnetic-closure keepsake box.
“Mahjong is one of those rare games that creates lasting traditions,” says Whitney Kimerling, Chief Creative Officer of Hootenanny Games. “People don’t just play Mahjong – they build friendships around it. We wanted to create something that honors that experience while creating a beautiful keepsake for seasoned players and newcomers alike.”
“Amanda’s artwork immediately captured the feeling we wanted this collection to have,” says Alex Kimerling, President of Hootenanny Games. “Beautiful, welcoming, and designed to be shared. We wanted every detail – from the artwork to the packaging — to make opening the box feel like part of the experience.”
