MAR10 Day celebrations took place on March 10, and Nintendo took the opportunity to give fans the latest in Mario news. The company released a YouTube video giving fans a look into what’s coming for the video game character, including a new animated film on the way.
Shigeru Miyamoto, video game designer, producer, and game director at Nintendo, made a surprise appearance in the MAR10 Day video to reveal Nintendo’s plans for a new animated movie, made in partnership with Illumination — the same production company that worked on the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The directors of the original will be making a return as well, with Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic back for the new film.
Also coming up for Super Mario fans is a full slate of Switch versions of familiar video games. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be released on Switch May 23, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD will come to Switch June 27, and three classic Game Boy games will launch on Nintendo Switch Online tomorrow: Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis.
With plans to expand the world of Mario following the success of the first Super Mario Bros. film, Nintendo is looking to the future with a new animated offering. The new movie will be released on April 3, 2026 in the U.S. and several international markets, with a release in a few additional territories later throughout the month.
