Mattel continues to expand its Mattel Creations line with products at the intersection of art and toys, often with a pop culture twist.
This time, Mattel teams up with Japanese artist, Madsaki for a collection of products inspired by the classic 1982 Masters of the Universe (MOTU) toy line.
Mattel teased some of the items in this collection on the Mattel Creations Instagram over the weekend. The limited-edition drop will include a neon-drenched oversized figure of He-Man riding Battle Cat inspired by spray-painted sculpture at the center of Madsaki’s 2020 1984 exhibition. The collection also includes hoodies, snapbacks, jackets, T-shirts, and lunchboxes featuring the artist’s unique spin on the classic designs.
Madsaki’s spray-paint based work centers around his interest in art history, often with references to popular culture or manga characters.
The Masters of the Universe X Madsaki collection will be available on Jan. 26 via the NTWRK app and on Jan. 29 at creations.mattel.com.
