It’s already been a big year for Mattel’s Masters of the Universe (MOTU) franchise and now, the epic tale of good vs. evil is being completely reimagined for a new generation of kids.

Mattel and Netflix unleashed the first trailer for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, an all-new CGI-animated series that presents a completely new take on the franchise. While Kevin Smith’s recent Masters of the Universe: Revelation was considered a continuation of the 1980s series, He-Man — streaming Sept. 16 on Netflix — is a total reboot with a distinctly unique story and style. Of course, MOTU is rooted in the toy aisle, and beginning Oct. 1, Walmart will be the exclusive launch destination for a new collection of He-Man action figures, vehicles, and playsets for kids ages 4 and up.

“Masters of the Universe terraformed my imagination,” says showrunner Rob David, vice president content creative, Mattel Television. “Playing with the action figures as a kid instantly transported me to Eternia, and it has been a dream come true to reimagine Eternia for the next generation.”
