Mattel Studios is adding another senior executive to its leadership team as it builds out the business behind its growing content slate.
Mario Giampaolo will join Mattel Studios as Global Head of Content Distribution on Oct. 5, reporting into the organization led by Robbie Brenner, President and Chief Content Officer. Giampaolo announced the move on LinkedIn.
Based at Mattel’s El Segundo, California, headquarters, Giampaolo will lead global content distribution strategy, deal-making, and partnerships across SVOD, AVOD, FAST, linear television, and emerging platforms. He will oversee teams in the U.S., Hong Kong, Italy, and the U.K.
Giampaolo brings more than 15 years of experience in content distribution and platform growth. Most recently, he led multi-territory content partnerships and strategy at Samsung TV Plus, working across general entertainment, music, Korean content, anime, video podcasts, and off-platform distribution.
Before Samsung, Giampaolo held senior roles at Sony Pictures Television and The Roku Channel. At Sony, he licensed current, first-run, and library programming to companies including NBCUniversal/Peacock, Paramount/Paramount+, and Warner Bros. Discovery/HBO Max. At Roku, he handled content licensing, acquisitions, film output, and co-production agreements with studios, network groups, and agencies.
The hire adds another piece to Mattel Studios’ push to expand the reach and value of its content as Mattel continues building its brands across entertainment platforms.
Giampaolo will head to Cannes with Mattel Studios’ global Content Distribution team for MIPCOM later this month.
