Chicago-based PBS member station WTTW will be bringing back its documentary series Chicago Stories this fall. One of the four new episodes this season will focus on the city’s toy industry history, appropriately titled “Toy Town.”
The hour-long documentary airs Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. (CST) and focuses on Chicago’s role as a leader in toy innovation and how the city’s toy designers helped create toys that support children’s entertainment and skill development.
Topics include Chicago’s forgotten predecessor to LEGO blocks, the Beanie Baby collection craze, and how the city’s innovators reinvented the industry.
WTTW President and CEO Sandra Cordova Micek shares her thoughts on the new season: “Chicago’s history is not one story, but many — shaped by people, ideas, ambitions, and experiences that continue to influence the city we know today. With this new season of Chicago Stories, we invite viewers to look more closely at the familiar, discover what they may not know, and see our city and our shared history with fresh eyes.”
