Barbie and her little sister Chelsea are swinging into streaming services around the world with two animated TV specials from Mattel Television.
Barbie & Chelsea The Lost Birthday will premiere this spring as the first television movie featuring Chelsea in a starring role as she embarks on a family cruise for her seventh birthday. When the Roberts family crosses the International Date Line, Chelsea realizes that her actual birthday has been lost and she takes off on an enchanted jungle island journey in an attempt to save it. Mattel will launch dolls, playsets, and accessories based on Chelsea this spring.
Directed by Cassi Simonds (Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures), the 60-minute special will debut on Netflix in the U.S., as well as on Cartoonito in Italy, Pop in the UK, 9Go! in Australia, Neox Kidz in Spain, SuperRTL in Germany, Carousel in Russia, and iQIYI in China, with additional broadcast and streaming partners to follow. Adam Bonnett, Fred Soulie, and Christopher Keenan will serve as executive producers, Ann Austen will co-executive produce, and Mainframe Studios will provide animation services.
Barbie fans can also look forward to a new musical special this fall, following the success of last year’s Barbie Princess Adventure, which is currently available on Netflix.
