Netflix acquired the StoryBots property.
Created by Gregg and Evan Spiridellis, StoryBots is an Emmy, Annie, and Parents’ Choice Award-winning children’s media brand that has seen growth on a global scale. Netflix seeks to expand on that growth as it furthers its commitment to educational kids and family content. Ask the StoryBots is a Netflix original series that debuted on the streaming service in 2016.
Taking a mixed media approach, the series uses multiple formats in its storytelling, including 3D, 2D, claymation, stop motion, and live action. Guest stars, including Snoop Dogg, Edward Norton, Whoopi Goldberg, and Wanda Sykes, ask the StoryBots questions such as “Why is the sky blue?” and “How does night happen?”
“Together with Netflix, our goal is to make StoryBots the leading educational entertainment brand for connected kids and families globally,” says StoryBots co-founders Evan and Gregg Spiridellis. “We want kids from Argentina to Zambia growing up laughing and learning with StoryBots that feel native to their culture. We see this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring something epically good into the world.”
Netflix officials say that the first-of-its-kind acquisition is the first step in an initiative that includes plans for a number of yet-to-be-announced preschool titles.
Season three of Ask the StoryBots debuts this fall.
