Rainbow has acquired the intellectual property rights to Geronimo Stilton, marking a significant new chapter for the globally recognized children’s literary franchise. The Italian entertainment group, led by founder Iginio Straffi, completed the acquisition through the purchase of shares in International Characters S.r.l.
“The Geronimo Stilton books have helped shape the imagination of millions of children in Italy and around the world,” says Rainbow Founder Iginio Straffi. “Welcoming this character into our family is a great honor and a great responsibility: we believe in the strength of his values and in his ability to continue to inspire young readers.”
Created by Elisabetta Dami, Geronimo Stilton has evolved into a global cultural phenomenon, with books selling more than 190 million copies in more than 50 languages. The stories center on Geronimo, a reluctant hero and editor of The Rodent’s Gazette, whose curiosity leads him into adventures filled with humor, mystery, and heart. The brand has expanded well beyond publishing, supported by a successful animated television series and an extended narrative universe that includes the Tea Sisters, led by Geronimo’s sister, Tea Stilton.
“I am extremely happy that my beloved Geronimo is joining the prestigious Rainbow family,” says Dami. “I am sure he will continue to inspire his readers to discover the world and remind them of the importance of curiosity, friendship, kindness, and imagination.”
Rainbow plans to further develop the franchise while preserving its core values of curiosity, exploration, and learning. The acquisition builds on Rainbow’s existing role representing Geronimo Stilton globally for licensing and publishing and creates new opportunities across editorial, digital, and entertainment platforms.
“I am truly delighted,” PM S.r.l. Owner Pietro Marietti shares. “I have worked tirelessly to create what I believe to be one of the greatest publishing phenomena in the world. …Entering the Rainbow universe now means taking another leap towards new adventures and new horizons, which I will be thrilled to collaborate on.”
Beginning next year, Rainbow will roll out new creative and commercial initiatives designed to expand the brand’s reach and connect with new generations, reinforcing the company’s broader strategy of developing family-focused content with global appeal.
