Wandering Planet Toys is mixing action figures with original music as its Planetoid Raiders line continues its Kickstarter run.
Rapper and self-described fandom specialist Wordburglar has released “Planetoid Raiders: Recordor’s Warning,” an original track built around the retro sci-fi toy line. He also worked with Wandering Planet Toys co-founders Chris “Doc” Wyatt and Gavin Hignight to create Recordor, a limited-edition Planetoid Raiders action figure based on the artist.
“Wordburglar is the perfect artist to provide a track for the Planetoid Raiders,” Wyatt says. “His playful and fast-paced music captures the imaginative spirit of these toys.”
“If you’re on a planetoid you can’t avoid The Planetoid Raiders,” says the Wordburglar. “Wordburglar has traveled across the cosmos to rhyme the alarm bells with this intergalactically catchy cautionary tale full of strange star-beings, antisocial androids, and klepto-terrestrials!”
Planetoid Raiders takes its cues from the 3.75-inch action figure boom of the late 1970s, particularly Kenner’s Star Wars figures and Tomland Toys’ offbeat Starroid Raiders. Each 1:18-scale figure features five points of articulation and retro-inspired packaging.
Wave 1 includes Captain Oton, Helmsman Ryot, WarLor the Mysterious Space Traveler, Yogun, and other characters, with figures offered individually on card backs or packed together in a metal lunchbox-style collector case featuring artwork by Bill Rude. The Kickstarter campaign also includes an exclusive eight-page “Sloog Interlude” mini-comic, written by Wyatt and illustrated by Chris Anderson.

“Recordor’s Warning” gives the campaign its third original song. It joins a Planetoid Raiders theme by singer-songwriter Johnathan Pushkar and elle AVA’s “Love Theme From Planetoid Raiders.”
Wordburglar already has plenty of toy and fandom cred. His catalog includes the G.I. Joe-inspired concept album Welcome to Cobra Island, and he previously voiced Starscope in Transformers: BotBots.
“My mind is still blown from the time Wordburglar dropped ‘Rap Viper’ on all of us. He is a treasure, and his rhymes are celebrated throughout the known universe,” adds Gavin Hignight. “There is no one better to put the Planetoid Raiders on the interstellar map.”
The Planetoid Raiders figures are funding now on Kickstarter, while “Planetoid Raiders: Recordor’s Warning” is available through Bandcamp and YouTube.
