Big things are coming for the LEGO Group.
On Nov. 3, the company broke ground on its $1-billion factory in Binh Duong Province in Vietnam. The factory is designed to be LEGO’s first carbon-neutral factory, helping the company meet its goal of cutting its carbon emissions by 37% by 2032.
“Today marks a significant milestone for us as we celebrate breaking ground at what will be our sixth factory globally and first carbon-neutral run facility,” says CEO of the LEGO Group Niels B. Christiansen. “Not only will it allow us to reach even more children with learning through play and create long-term growth in the Asia-Pacific region, but it will also enable us to quickly adapt and respond to shifts in consumer demand.”
The new factory is also expected to employ more than 4,000 people in the next 15 years. More than 40 children from Hoi Nghia Primary School helped design employee and play areas of the factory through the “Build the Change” workshop, one of many programs LEGO is implementing to support the children of Vietnam through play and creativity.
LEGO is investing the largest amount of money in Vietnam of any Danish company to expand its supply chain network and bring products closer to major markets.
Earlier this year, the company revealed plans to build a massive, state-of-the-art facility in Virginia that will supply LEGO products to the U.S. market once it goes online.
