Nadia Ramlakhan-Velit, former editor for The Toy Book and its sister publication, The Toy Insider, has launched her first children’s book.
Chickie Chickie in the Garden, designed for young readers ages 0 and up, follows the titular chicken on her adventures through the vegetable- and fruit-filled garden. The 28-page book features vibrant illustrations by Dora Doubles and riddle-and-reveal pages that help little readers learn more about Chickie’s discoveries. Celebrating curiosity, the story encourages young readers to question and examine the world around them.

Ramlakhan-Velit shares the thought process behind the book’s development, saying that “One of my favorite things about watching little ones grow is seeing how even the most ordinary moments can turn into something extraordinary. That’s the feeling I wanted to capture in Chickie Chickie in the Garden. My hope is that the story encourages families to slow down, embrace those little moments, and carry that sense of wonder beyond the pages and into everyday life.”
She will be hosting a reading of Chickie Chickie in the Garden at Play First in Hamilton, New Jersey, Nov. 1, where attendees can purchase their own copies. To register for the event, visit playfirstnj.com.
Readers can find the picture book now on Amazon for $11.99 and at Daff & Daisy Preloved Kidswear Boutique in Columbus, New Jersey.
