Next spring, a special episode of Miraculous — Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir will pit the titular heroes against a new foe: plastic waste.
ZAG and ON Kids & Family (Mediawan Group) are collaborating with the nonprofit Breteau Foundation on the episode in which Marinette (Ladybug), Adrien (Cat Noir), and their friends want to actively fight plastic pollution in Paris. The adventure leads Marinette to realize that the group should try to fix the problem at its root, by trying to meet with the largest plastic manufacturer in person and convince him to change his habits — but supervillain Monarch has other plans.
According to ZAG Founder and CEO Jeremy Zag, the animation studio and entertainment company plans to launch a new foundation, ZAG Forest, an initiative that will be complemented by the eco-friendly new Miraculous adventure.
“We are sensitive to ecology and environmental protection … In this context, it seemed obvious to us to participate in the initiative of the Breteau Foundation and to put our heroes at the service of this cause,” Zag says. “Ladybug and Cat Noir are the best ambassadors of tomorrow’s issues and will be able to accompany children in their mission to create a better world.”
The Breteau Foundation sparked the collaboration with ZAG and ON Kids & Family in 2020. The organization is working with the companies to infuse the script with educational messaging and plans to launch a series of companion workshops, complete with STEAM learning tools, lesson plans, and resources that educators around the world will be able to access for free beginning next year.
