LEGO SMART Play Expands with Pokémon Sets

The LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International are expanding its collaboration with 12 new LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets designed to combine construction play with interactive experiences for builders ages 6 and up.

The lineup introduces LEGO SMART Play functionality to Pokémon, enabling brick-built characters to respond to play through light, sound, motion, and sensing technology powered by the LEGO SMART Brick. The system is designed to support screen-free play, while the sets are centered on training, nurturing, exploring, and battling Pokémon.

“For the first time ever, LEGO Pokémon creatures respond to children’s actions: meaning fans can build, train, and interact with their LEGO Pokémon creatures through hands-on, imaginative play that encourages creativity, confidence, and storytelling,” says Julia Goldin, chief marketing and product officer at The LEGO Group. “LEGO SMART Play is an expansion of our existing LEGO System-in-Play, and we are excited to integrate it into our latest LEGO Pokémon sets. It’s all about inviting children to explore, experiment, and bring their own ideas to their adventures!”

The collection includes two LEGO SMART Play All-in-One sets and 10 LEGO SMART Play compatible sets featuring Pokémon, including Pikachu, Charizard, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Eevee, Gengar, Mew, Mewtwo, Umbreon, Garchomp, and more.

Training House with Pikachu, for ages 6 and up, includes a Pikachu-inspired treehouse, training accessories, one SMART Brick, four SMART Tags, and a charger. Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle, for ages 8 and up, includes two SMART Bricks, four SMART tags, a charger, and battle-focused play features.

Compatible expansion sets are designed to extend play through themed scenarios and Pokémon-specific experiences, including Trainer’s Buggy Adventure with Squirtle, Charmander and Geodude’s Cavern Clash, Jigglypuff Concert, Eevee and Lapras’s Treasure Hunt, Mewtwo’s Lab Break, and Cubone and Gengar’s Spooky Showdown.

The new LEGO Pokémon SMART Play collection is available for preorder and launches Aug. 1 online, in LEGO Stores, and at select retailers. Select LEGO Stores will also feature LEGO SMART Play demonstrations and Pokémon Go activations, including PokéStops and Gyms tied to exclusive in-game rewards.
