From Oct. 5-8, board game fans will flock to the Essen exhibition center in Germany for the 40th Spiel show. The fair, which is organized by Friedhelm Merz Verlag — a subsidiary of Spielwarenmesse eG — will feature almost 1,000 exhibitors from 50 countries.
“We are looking forward to four exciting days, which for games fans all over the world are an absolute highlight on the gaming calendar,” says Florian Hess, Board Member at Spielwarenmesse eG and Managing Director of Merz Verlag. “Only in Essen can they try out all the new ideas to their heart’s content.”
More than 1,500 new games will be on display during the show in six halls at Spiel, including the winners of innoSPIEL and the German Games Prize. The first hall will feature trading card games and mini games, Hall 3 will have games for experts, and Halls 2, 4, 5, and 6 will have family games for all levels of gaming ability. Hall 6 will also feature the main entrance to the fair with industry giants, including Amigo, Asmodee, Days of Wonder, Thames & Kosmos, Ravensburger, and Schmidt-Spiele.
“We have such a broad range to offer — there is something for every games fan,” says Carol Rapp, Managing Director of Merz Verlag. “Not only cooperative games but also solo and two-player games are particularly well represented.”
