With extreme weather affecting more and more families every year, Sesame Workshop is launching a new initiative that teaches kids and caregivers the best ways to weather the storm, starting with a new television special on Aug. 3.
Premiering on Netflix and PBS Kids, Storm on Sesame Street follows Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and the rest of the gang as they get ready for a big storm. As they batten down the hatches, the characters will teach kids the importance of teamwork, kindness, and preparedness, and how to handle their big emotions when things feel scary. With celebrity guests Post Malone and Michelle Buteau, this special helps give little ones the tools they need to face the forecast with confidence.
Beyond the screen, Sesame Workshop is teaming up with PBS and local nonprofits to host disaster relief events at libraries, community centers, storm shelters, and rebuilding sites across the U.S. The programs will feature meet-and-greets with characters, distribute resources, and even hand out Sesame Street-themed Care Kits with comfort items and everyday essentials to bring reassurance to kids and families in need.
In addition, the company is launching a variety of free educational resources on its website, including articles, videos, help guides, printable activities, and a new storybook.
