People of Play continues to honor toy industry leaders at its 19th annual Toy & Game Innovation Excellence (TAGIE) Awards. The ceremony will take place on Nov. 6 at Joe’s Live Concert Venue in Rosemont, Illinois.
This year’s ceremony honors Star Wars’ 50th anniversary through its “The Force of Play” theme. To celebrate five decades of Star Wars is TAGIE Awards host Ashley Eckstein, the original voice of Ahsoka Tano. Additionally, guests will receive a commemorative coin featuring the anniversary emblem and the TAGIE Awards logo.
During this year’s ceremony, People of Play will also honor Pleasant Rowland, Elan Lee, and Matthew Inman. As the founder of American Girl, Rowland is to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lee and Inman, Co-Founders of Exploding Kittens, will receive the Industry Game Changers award.
“For nearly 50 years, Star Wars has inspired fans to believe that even the unlikeliest hero can change the galaxy. This year’s honorees embody that spirit. From Pleasant Rowland shaping how generations of kids connect with history and storytelling, to Elan Lee and Matthew Inman turning a bold idea into one of the world’s most successful tabletop game brands, these creators are pushing play forward,” says Robb LaFlamme, Director of Hardlines at Disney Parks Retail and Development and Chairman of the TAGIE Awards Committee.
Like the three honorees, awards are also being presented to winners in 10 categories, with public voting open until Oct. 21. For more information, visit chitag.com.
