LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. released its LeapBuilders line of smart building blocks this week.
Previewed at Toy Fair New York, the company’s first-ever range of smart blocks combine classic block play with technology and curriculum-based learning content. LeapFrog says that the range hopes to inspire kids’ creativity while encouraging fine motor skills and problem-solving.
“LeapFrog is shaking up the construction toy aisle by bringing building blocks to life with LeapBuilders,” says Andy Keimach, president, VTech Electronics North America, LeapFrog’s parent company. “LeapBuilders are packed full of the educational content that LeapFrog is known for so kids can get even more out of their building fun!”
The range hit retail with five play sets at launch — the LeapBuilders ABC Smart House, Food Fun Family Farm, Shapes & Music Castle, 123 Counting Train, and 81-Piece Jumbo Blocks Box. Each set features an interactive electronic Smart Star cube and double-sided learning blocks. When a learning block is inserted into the interactive Smart Star, it responds with sounds, educational songs, and learning content such as colors, numbers, letters, and more to create a uniquely engaging play experience. Blocks from different sets can be mixed-and-matched to unlock additional sounds.
The LeapBuilders collection is designed for kids ages 18 months and up.
