Avalon Hill is hatching a new tabletop adventure inspired by one of nature’s most remarkable journeys.
Intended for ages 10 and up, Tideward tasks players with helping baby sea turtles brave the dangerous trek from their sandy nests to the open ocean. On each turn, players can hatch eggs, collect food, or move their turtles toward the safety of the Agal Mat, navigating the shifting tides and avoiding hungry ghost crabs along the way.
Players can choose from four Agal Mats, each offering a different way to play and score points. After each round, the circular tide board rotates, carrying turtles closer or farther from their destinations. Once a player gets all their hatchlings into the water, everyone tallies their points based on their secret Tide Quest objectives and the placement of their turtles, and the player with the highest score wins.
Tideward is the latest game from designer Connie Vogelmann, who has gained major buzz for her nature-inspired board games, including her 2023 debut Apirary, a bee-inspired adventure, and Wyrmspan, a fantasy reimagining of Elizabeth Hargrave’s Wingspan.
Tideward is slated to hit shelves in January 2027. However, those attending this year’s Spiel Essen will have a chance to demo the game before its release at the Avalon Hill and Hasbro booth.
